The Dean of Dublin


The Very Reverend Dermot Patrick Martin Dunne
 
Dermot Dunne is a native of Mallow, County Cork. He was ordained deacon in 1983 and Priest in 1984. The dean served his curacy in Milford Parish before taking up a post as hospital chaplain at the Whittington hospital in Highgate, London. Following on from there Dermot served in St George's parish in the diocese of Southwark and St Mary's parish, Chelsea in the diocese of Westminster. On his return to Ireland Dermot was appointed Dean's Vicar at Christ Church Cathedral where he served his title for two and a half years before being appointed incumbent of the Crosspatrick and Carnew group of parishes in the diocese of Ferns. Dermot was appointed to the deanery at Christ Church in May 2008 having served his title in the diocese of Ferns for seven years. During his time in Ferns Dermot had been Warden of Readers for the diocese of Cashel and Ferns and subsequently preferrred to the archdeaconery of Ferns. Dermot is a diploma graduate in philosophy and theology of St Patrick's College, Maynooth and is a graduate in Arts and Theology of Dublin City University. Dermot graduated as a psychotherapist in 1995 and completed two years post graduate training in psychotherapy at the London Chiron Centre for psychotherapy. Dermot is married to Celia who is from Hertfordshire and is now working as a therapist in Dublin having worked for many years in the Probation Service of the United Kingdom as a Community Service Officer.


The Cathedral Residential Priest Vicar

Revd Edward Garth Bunting, 
From Donaghadee in Co Down, Garth was ordained deacon in 1999 and priest in 2000.  As a curate-assistant, Garth served in the Parish of Clooney with Strathfoyle in Derry diocese, before becoming rector of Leckpatrick and Dunnalong in 2002 (also Derry diocese) and rector of Finaghy and Upper Malone in Connor Diocese in 2006.  He has been on the staff of the cathedral as Residential Priest Vicar since September 2010. Garth’s particular area of interest is in Christian spirituality, including the monastic way of life and practices that can help all Christians today sustain, develop and grow in their relationship with God and one-another.

Ms Bernie Murphy, Managing Director
 
Bernie is responsible for the overall management of Christ Church Cathedral. Previous positions include Chief Executive with the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE Ireland) and Headway Ireland, the Irish Youth Foundation and the establishment of the Finglas Youth Service while working with Catholic Youth Care. Academic qualifications include a BA and a Higher Diploma in Education from St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth; a Masters in Industrial Relations from the University of Keele in Stafforshire,UK; an MBA from Dublin City University and a Diploma in Public Relations from the PRII. She was a member of the Department of Health Strategic Review Group on Acquired Brain Injury, an organisational representative on the Northern Area Heath Board Coordinating Committee and an elected member to the boards of the Disability Federation of Ireland and the Finglas/Cabra Partnership. She was a member of the Education Advisory Group with the Bank of Ireland Millennium Scholars Trust and is currently a member of the Board of St. Dominic’s Secondary School, Ballyfermot. 

Ms Nuala Kavanagh, Director of Operations 
Nuala is responsible for the day to day running of the cathedral including the co-ordination and promotion of services and events and the supervision of the office staff and vergers. Before joining the cathedral her previous roles include Public Relations and Marketing Manager at the Gate Theatre, Dublin; Operations and Communications Manager for Nemo Entertainment, a television production company based in Dublin and Pinewood Studios in London; and Advertising Executive and Features Writer for the Munster Express Newspaper. Academic Qualifications include a BA degree from Waterford Institute of Technology, an MA in Applied Media Studies and a Diploma in Piano Performance from the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

Ms Lesley-Anne Carey, Education Officer

Originally from Northern Ireland, Lesley-Anne moved to Dublin in 2008 to study for an MPhil in Literary Translation at Trinity College Dublin, simultaneously taking up the role of Soprano Lay Vicar Choral in the cathedral choir. She has been working in the cathedral office since October 2010 and became Education Officer in November 2011, responsible for organising tours, educational programmes and the annual Christmas Market. Previous roles include English Language and Civilisation teacher at the Université Nancy2 and SciencesPo Paris, and in her spare time she teaches piano, singing and recorder to children in music schools around Dublin.

Mr Ruairi Ferrie, Administrative Officer 
Ruairi is originally from Galway, and is a graduate of the University of Limerick. After working for a period in office administration in Galway, Ruairi spent several years working as an archaeologist in Dublin and throughout the east of Ireland. When he wasn't doing this he was touring around Ireland, Europe and the US with his band. He joined Christ Church Cathedral in spring 2011.

Mark has over 20 years experience in the construction industry as a Stonemason. He re-trained with Community Action Network (CAN Action) in understanding community development and the promotion of equality in the community. He has recently completed his CompTia A+ Essentials in computer technology.
