Hiring the Cathedral
ConcertsThe Cathedral has excellent acoustics and provides a magnificent setting for a large number of musical events every year. We have hosted a variety of concerts, from choral, to orchestral to popular music featuring a wide selection of performers, both of an international and a local standard. The Cathedral can accommodate both lunchtime and
evening concerts, and can seat from 250 to 525 people for an evening concert. For all concerts, posters and information will be displayed on the noticeboard, on the website and facebook page. Performers are welcome to sell CDs, tapes and souvenirs on the day, by prior arrangement. We will provide a changing / storage space for performers at evening concerts. Rehearsals on the day of the concert can be arranged with the cathedral office.
We want your event to be a success! In order to ensure that it all goes smoothly, we will ask you to:
- Nominate a key contact, ideally a non-performer, for us to work with on a day-to-day basis
- Send us a completed concert booking form plus deposit when your booking has been accepted
- Agree any use of your own electrical equipment, lighting or fixtures with us beforehand
- Comply in full with our Health and Safety policy
Filming in the cathedral
The cathedral has been used as a setting for many documentaries and films. The television series ‘The Tudors’ was filmed here over a number of years, using the cathedral, the crypt and the chapter house.
